Teaching
My teaching philosophy centers on representation, engagement, and compassion. I am dedicated to my students feeling represented by me and the scholars we study in class. I share my background and perspective as a Latina immigrant woman and my journey through academia to encourage other underrepresented minorities to pursue an academic career. Furthermore, I ensure my students read scholars from different race, gender, and class backgrounds as part of my class. I foster engagement through classroom practices, including conversations led by discussion questions and calling in students to reconsider their preconceived views on our society. Finally, I lead courses with compassion and foster a classroom environment that supports the success of all students.
